When Jezebel, the queen, heard that Elijah had proved to the people who was the true God and taken away all the ones who told the bad ones words, she sent a message to Elijah that she was going have him killed.

When Elijah heard it he ran far away into the wilderness and sat down under a juniper tree and asked God to take him out of this world.

Then Elijah lay down and fell asleep. Later, an angel came and touched him and told him, Get up and eat.

Elijah saw a cake baked on hot coals and a jar of water. So he ate and lay down and fell asleep again.

The angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, Get up and eat because you have to travel a long way.

So Elijah got up and ate and drank and went 40 days and 40 nights because that food made him so strong.

He came to the mountain of God where God had made His deal with the children of Israel and given Moses the Ten Commandments.

He stayed in a cave on the mountain.

God’s spoke to him there and said, What are you doing here Elijah?

Elijah answered, I have been very strong in my heart for the Lord God because the children of Israel have left the Lord and thrown down your altars and killed those who taught us about You.

I am the only one for you who is left and they are trying to kill me too.

The Lord told him, Go out and stand in the mountain before the Lord.

And the Lord passed by and a great strong wind tore in pieces the rocks of the mountain. But the Lord was not in the wind.

After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

After the earthquake there was a fire. But the Lord was not in the fire.

After the fire came a still small voice. God was speaking by His Spirit.

When Elijah heard the still small voice he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

The voice came again and said, What are you doing here Elijah?

Elijah said, I have been very strong for the Lord God and the children of Israel have left the Lord and His rules and broken down His altars and killed those who spoke His words. I am the only one left and they are trying to kill me too.

The Lord told him, Go back and appoint Hazael as king over Syria. Appoint Jehu, son of Nimshi as king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat to tell the people My words.

I have kept 7,000 for Myself in Israel who have not bowed down to the bad ones.

So Elijah did what the Lord God said.
